EN/ Gizmo launches a call for images for the #Remix publication

#Remix is a research undertaken by Gizmo in 2018, and developed through a series of exhibitions and meetings, held at the School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano. In order to enlarge the research, in view of a printed publication, Gizmo is now launching a call for contributions (images), open to young professionals.
Submitted images can be of any nature and technique – sketches, drawings, technical drawings, collages, renderings, photos of built projects, etc. – provided that they are representative of the practice’s work. They shall be send in the formats detailed in the attached form, and shared through a Dropbox link.
All received images will be reviewed by the members of Gizmo, who will decide upon their publication inside the volume.

“Within the specific field of architecture – virtually in different countries, but more substantially in the broader context of the World Wide Web – a group of young architects has been taking shape, all sharing a few common features: to start, they all belong to the same generation, though an expanded one; moreover, they all adopt drawing as their main tool of expression (meaning by that a drawing that exceeds the project’s mere technical representation, rather transforming into a vehicle for “meanings”); lastly (but not in the last place), they all rely on the “technique” of remix, that it to say a more or less aware recovery of fragments of materials, previously elaborated by others. Through all of these features, this set of architects acquires the likeness of a “movement”: a “movement” which is undoubtedly not unitary, and yet is inspired by somewhat common reasons. This pool is certainly very different from the movements of historic avant-gardes and from neo-avant-gardes, as it lacks a precise idea or some shared “poetics”, able to coagulate the diverse singularities. It is nonetheless curious to acknowledge that many of the groups involved feel the need to present themselves through the publication of a “manifesto”, reproducing a methodology which was inherent precisely in the season of avant-gardes; and at the same time to witness how these “manifesti” reflect much more their authors’ own subjectivities, rather than their common affiliation to some sort of “canon”, as much as it can be a non-canonical one”.

#Remix è una ricerca intrapresa da Gizmo nel 2018 ed elaborata attraverso una serie di mostre e incontri tenutisi presso la Scuola di Architettura Urbanistica Ingegneria delle Costruzioni del Politecnico di Milano. Oggi Gizmo lancia una call per contributi in forma di immagini, aperta a giovani professionisti, per poter estendere tale ricerca in vista di una pubblicazione stampata.
Le immagini potranno essere qualsiasi natura e tecnica – schizzi, disegni, disegni tecnici, collage, render, fotografie di lavori realizzati, eccetera – ma dovranno essere rappresentative del lavoro dello studio. Queste dovranno essere inviate nei formati indicati nel modulo allegato e inviate tramite link Dropbox.
I materiali raccolti saranno presi in esame dai membri di Gizmo, che ne valuteranno poi la pubblicazione all’interno del volume.

“Nello specifico ambito dell’architettura, da qualche anno a questa parte si è venuta formando – virtualmente in diversi paesi, ma nel modo più effettivo dentro il più vasto contesto del World Wide Web – una compagine di giovani architetti che presenta al proprio interno alcune caratteristiche comuni: innanzitutto, l’appartenenza a una medesima generazione, per quanto allargata; in secondo luogo, la ricorrente tendenza a relazionarsi tra loro sulla base della configurazione del gruppo; inoltre, l’adozione del disegno come proprio principale mezzo espressivo (un disegno cioè che esula dalla semplice rappresentazione tecnica del progetto e che diviene piuttosto un veicolo di “significati”); infine (ma non da ultimo), l’impiego della “tecnica” del remix, ovvero della ripresa – più o meno cosciente – di spezzoni di materiali elaborati in precedenza da altri. Tutti questi caratteri conferiscono al complesso di tali architetti le sembianze di un “movimento”: un “movimento” senza alcun dubbio non unitario, ma quantomeno animato da intenzioni in una qualche misura comuni. Certamente, si tratta di un’aggregazione che rimane molto distante dai movimenti delle avanguardie storiche o delle neo- avanguardie, mancando nel caso presente una precisa idea o una “poetica” capace di coagulare le diverse singolarità. È curioso però come molti dei gruppi in questione sentano l’esigenza di presentare sé stessi attraverso la stesura di un “manifesto”, assumendo una modalità tipica proprio della stagione delle avanguardie; e come tuttavia questi “manifesti” riflettano assai più la soggettività di ciascuno di essi, anziché la loro comune adesione a un qualche tipo di “canone”, per quanto poco canonico possa essere.”
